* can explain how language education policies influence bilingualism
授業の概要 This course will look at bilingualism at four levels. At the individual level, bilingualism is the degree of development of more than one language. At the family level, bilingualism includes raising children to use more than one language, whether the family is international or the parents are both Japanese native speakers. At the educational level, it includes foreign language study, and bilingual education. Finally, at the level of society, bilingualism considers languages in terms of different cultural groups and government policies regarding minority languages. Students will analyze and discuss issues related to bilingualism, biculturalism, and intercultural communication.
