授業の目的、または到達目標 To explore the nature of bilingualism in Japan and worldwide, including issues of child-raising, bilingual education, government policies, and human rights of language minorities.
授業の概要 Research and report about bilingualism in Japan and the world. Bilingualism includes the individual level, such as your own bilingual and bicultural development; the family level, such as bilingual child-raising; the level of society, such as language minorities and government policies; bilingual education, such as international schools; and human rights, such as the right to choose languages for a child's education or your own bilingual identity.

準備学習 About two hours a week, study and prepare to discuss the handouts, library and online sources. Prepare short research papers and presentations. Submit four papers of at least one page plus References in APA format.
教科書 Materials and e-learning provided by the teacher.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work (Class participation, out-of-class preparation, discussions and reporting in English): 40%; Group Research Presentation: 20%; Summary of Research Presentation & References: 10%; Reflection & Response Papers (3x10%): 30%. There are penalties for late papers. If the Summary and Response Papers are not submitted by the end of the make-up exam period, the student cannot pass the course.
