授業の目的、または到達目標 英語で書かれたものを抵抗なく読むことができる。
英語で書かれたものを日本語に訳すことなく、多量に読むことができる。
論理的に書かれた英語の文献の構成を理解し、効率良く、正確かつ批判的に読みこなすことができる。
授業の概要 学術文献を読む準備として、論理的に書かれたパラグラフまたエッセイの基本構成を理解し、資料を正確かつ批判的に読む力をつける。Topic Writing, Topic Discussionと共通のトピック（Unit 1 平和の追求、Unit 2 科学と宗教）に関する様々な文献を読み、トピックに関連する知識を深め、英語で話したり書いたりするための情報を得る。
授業の形態 予習を前提にして、資料を読み、理解を確認し、トピックについてデイスカッションを行う。

準備学習 スケジュールで示された教材の予習を行う。共通教材にはエッセイを朗読した録音があるので予習に利用する。文の構成については「日本語説明」冊子を参照すること。英英辞書で単語を調べる。
