授業の目的、または到達目標 Students can use English for both personal expression and basic research reading & writing
Students can read English texts with appropriate strategies and comprehension
Students can read widely from extensive reading texts
Students can prepare and present oral presentations on various topics relating to global issues, environmental and human rights issues, and issues relating to poverty, social justice, and food & water supply
Students can cooperate with others to prepare and present group projects
Students can combine all four language skills with greater ease and fluency
授業の概要 Students will use English skills, including speaking, reading, listening & writing, to express their ideas on the topics of global citizenship, peace, and human rights & social justice. They will practice basic research goals in collecting, organizing and presenting information about these topics in a variety of informal and formal ways. The rhetorical focus will be on gathering examples and details to write persuasively (letters, essays, flyers).

授業の形態 Individual/Pair/Group work, several assigned projects, group and individual homework and classwork
Students will have regular homework for this class and are required to research and organize several topical reports and presentations. Most of the project work will be done in small groups, and evaluation will be on both individual and group efforts.
Students are required to sign up for, and participate in, an Extensive Reading program that is mostly independent; to complete a reflective Portfolio that combines work from both IS3 and IS4; to regularly make entries into a Vocabulary Journal or on Vocabulary Cards, and to participate in all in-class activities.

準備学習 Students will have regular weekly homework and will be asked to prepare presentations and other assignments outside of class time
教科書 Global Issues for English Language Teaching. 2010. A Resource Pack based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
参考文献 Students should have a dictionary, a Vocabulary Journal, a notebook, and should be prepared to use assigned websites and reading materials for outside research
成績評価方法・基準 Projects (5 x 12%) = 60%
The five projects include a mix of oral presentation, poster presentation, group discussion, written assignment and others.
Classwork = 40%
Classwork includes regular homework, in-class participation in speaking, listening, writing, and reading activities; extensive reading response activities, quizzes, and preparation for project assignments
