授業の目的、または到達目標 To improve presentation skills, public reading and speaking accuracy for presentations on local issues in the community and schools.
Students will strive to:
* improve spoken accuracy in English through effective pronunciation,
* provide information using a variety of presentation formats
* create effective presentations using presentation software
* communicate clearly when reading out loud
* actively participate in presentations made by others
* conduct research and present this information in an appropriate manner
授業の概要 This course will focus on developing speaking accuracy and communication skills. This will include presenting information, informal speaking, explaining clearly, and persuading people on a contemporary community issue found in Japan or other country. More specifically, the course will focus on (a) pronunciation accuracy especially in areas of sentence stress, intonation and key problem sounds (b) improving presentation delivery, structure, and visual aids, (c) developing the skills and expressions needed for presentation. Topics include advanced pronunciation skills, the basics of oral presentation, content, organization, and delivery; selection of appropriate register; use of voice and nonverbal communication; and delivery of presentations with a community theme.

準備学習 Students will conduct research, and plan for and practice presentations. Expect to spend about 2 hours on preparation for every class.

成績評価方法・基準 Presentation portfolio 50% (3 presentations in different formats = 15% each for first two 20% for final presentation., including performances, visuals, note cards, self-evaluations, preparation, etc.)
Pronunciation portfolio 25% (improvement of pronunciation, practice at home, internet tests, classroom reading)
Course work 25% (Peer feedback, active questioning, participation, etc.)
