授業の目的、または到達目標 Objectives To consider the role of media in facilitating global communication and examine various media systems.
Goals * articulate the role of the media in Japanese society
* explain the role of the media in international communications
* explain the structure of different media systems
* conduct research on media
* explain the role of new media (digital, social, etc.) on global communications
* create media products in digital and print formats
授業の概要 Contents This course will examine the role of media in global communication and consider their importance in modern society. The course will examine the global multimedia environment with the aim of becoming developing and understanding of how media function, the various laws that nations impose on media, the influence of media conglomerates and popular culture, and other issues related to media and global communication issues.

準備学習 Preparation is expected. Part of the class will be lectures and reading discussions. Each student will lead the discussion the readings during the term. Discussion leaders need to prepare a short summary (one page maximum) to provide to the class. Information from the readings and discussions will be included in quizzes. You will create media products, edit your own and other students, and improve those you make. These will be in English. Projects will include writing factual articles, creating an advertisement (poster or CM for a product or NPO), editing your own and other students writing, and other tasks based on your skill level with technology.
