This course will introduce students to the production of media content for modern media platforms (print, digital, broadcast). Learning goals To understand the production process for a variety of media forms, including digital, broadcast, and print, To create effective media products using a variety of production techniques To articulate the creative process To improve story telling skills for modern media forms To become able to edit the work of others in order to improve the story (print & digital) To develop and sharpen media literacy skills |
授業の概要 |
To understand the production process for a variety of media forms, including digital, broadcast, and print, and learn to create effective media products using a variety of production techniques. Students will study the history of media production (Guttenberg to the present), critically examine media products, and learn the basics of creating media. Students will be expected to work in production teams on short videos and written texts for digital distribution. |
授業の形態 |
Lectures, production work, writing. Deadlines: In the media industry, deadlines determine your payment. In this class, your "payment" is your grade. Late projects will result in grade reductions. If you anticipate that you will be late with an assignment, see me before the deadline. I will not accept assignments more than two weeks after a deadline. No extension will be given for the final project. |

Extensive out of class will be required for this course as students will be expected to write for written and broadcast forms, prepare short audio recordings and podcasts, take short videos, edit their own work and the work of others, and conduct research for the stories they decide to tell. |

教科書 |
1) Firewire drive (minimum 80-GB) (for data storage of large files) 2) No text is required. However, readings (and viewings) will be provided by PDFs and through internet sites. Students will also need to have access to a Firewire drive (minimum 80-GB) for storing audio and video data for editing. This can be shared with others. Get as much memory as you can afford. |

Your fellow students, your instructors, and other members of the school community will be among those who have access to these projects. It will be your responsibility to conduct yourself appropriately and create quality content. Copyright is to be respected at all time. All images and music used in any production must be yours or used with the permission if done by friends outside this class. Inappropriate material will not be tolerated, including any libel, slander, obscenity, or unethical behavior. The production of such material will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the class with a final grade of "F". |
