授業の概要 This course will examine the role of media and their importance in modern society. The course will examine the global multimedia environment with the aim of becoming critical consumers and producers of culture. The course broadly defines “media” as including oral, print, photographic, broadcast, cinematic, and digital forms of cultural production. The course will examine the history of media, the role of media and media institutions, and the characteristics of mediated communication that help define the myths and beliefs of modern society.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work ? 60% (includes in-class work, homework, presentations, quizzes, discussions); Reflection papers (2 or more) & Research Paper (5+ pages & references) ? 40% [includes early stages (outline, introduction, preparation, first draft) & final paper; 2 or more reflection papers to develop understanding of the topic).
