授業の目的、または到達目標 To consider the role of media in facilitating global communication and examine various media systems.
Learning Goals:

* can explain the role of new media (digital, social, etc.) on global communications
* can create media products in digital and print formats
授業の概要 This course will examine the role of media in global communication and consider their importance in modern society. The course will examine the global multimedia environment with the aim of becoming developing and understanding of how media function, the various laws that nations impose on media, the influence of media conglomerates and popular culture, and other issues related to media and global communication issues.

準備学習 To understand media and the role of media in society, students must do the assigned readings before class and prepare for discussions each week. Only through active participation will students come to understand the role of media, their characteristics, their influence, and the impact of media on our global society.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work -- 20%
Presentations & papers -- 50% (includes reflection papers & final research paper and presentation)
Media creation projects -- 30% (digital and print)

備考 Preparation is an important element for understanding media and mediated communication in modern society. A detailed syllabus will be provided at the first class meeting.
Class meetings:
Weeks 1-8 = Mon. 5th & Wed. 2nd; Weeks 9-15 = Mon. 5th.
Expect to do about 70 hours of work outside of class (about 5 hours every week) for this course.
