授業の目的、または到達目標 To explore methods of teaching of English as a foreign language and improve communicative ability in the English classroom.
授業の概要 Understanding that English learned in Japan is not English as a second language (ESL) but English as a foreign language (EFL), students will examine and put into practice teaching theory that focuses on improving students’ ability in communication. The course links theory with practice through “hands on” activities that include teaching skills in the four skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking, the preparation of teaching plans, and class management. The main areas covered in this course include teaching methodology, communication theory, factors influencing foreign language acquisition, schema theory, learning motivation, and computer and internet use.

準備学習 Reading (course text, articles provided by the instructor, and materials in the library) will be expected. Students must be prepared for class. Preparation will include reading, writing, and occasional group work. Students may need to spend additional time out side of class hours when preparing their final projects. (At least four hours a week, often as much as eight, will need to be allocated to out-of-class study for this course.)
