授業の目的、または到達目標 In this class, we will try to better understand and appreciate the diversity of cultures by examining important cultural elements such as folk tales, music, clothing, food, ceremonies and festivals.
Learning Objectives:
* Students can discuss various elements of culture in some depth
* Students can discuss a chosen culture with some expertise by focusing on various elements
* Students can express their reflections in growing length and complexity about their own learning and insights about different cultures and cultural elements
授業の概要 We will examine various cultural elements in a number of cultures including that of Japan, and then focus on understanding a student-chosen culture by viewing it through some of its elements.

成績評価方法・基準 40% - Class/Other work (10% for short quizzes, 30% for homework and in-class activities including worksheets, short writings and mini-presentations)
30% - Reflection and response papers
20% - Research presentation
10% - Summary and reflection of the research with references

Quizzes and worksheets will be corrected, short writings will be corrected and receive comments, reflection/response papers and the final research-based paper will be corrected, receive comments, and graded with rubrics, mini-presentations will receive oral/written feedback, and the final research presentation will receive oral/written feedback with rubrics.
