授業の目的、または到達目標 To understand the principal aspects of English law and understand its
contribution to the legal systems pertaining in America, Canada,
Australia, New Zealand and a number of Commonwealth countries.
Learning goals:
* can describe the two major divisions of the law
* can describe the basic precepts of Anglo-Saxon and Japanese law
* can explain differences between Anglo-Saxon and Japanese law
授業の概要 Following a brief survey of English legal history, the legal profession and the
differences between the two major divisions of the law (civil and criminal),
the main part of the course will be concerned with exploring the constituents
of a crime and how general legal principles can be employed to determine
guilt or innocence in specific cases. Students will be encouraged to compare
and contrast Anglo-Saxon precepts with appropriate elements of Japanese
law.

準備学習 Preparation. After each mini-lecture, the material (in the form of study notes) should be studied at leisure. Presentations must be researched in the library and via the internet. This will entail group work.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work = 50% (includes in-class work, homework, presentations, quizzes, discussions); Final Presentation = 10%; Reflection papers (2 or more) & Research Paper (5+ pages & references) [includes early stages (outline, introduction, preparation, first draft) = 40%
