授業の目的、または到達目標 To understand the history of some current social issues through an examination of Mark Twain's life and literature.
Learning goals:
* can discuss the effects of social issues on cultures past and present
* can discuss how technology and religion may be related and the importance of each to our lives (including benefits and problems)
* can discuss current technology and what changes the future may bring
授業の概要 This course will examine Mark Twain's life and literature in order to understand the history of some social issues found in modern society. Students will choose opinions about technology and religion from Mark Twain’s writings such as "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court," "Captain
Storm field's Visit to Heaven," and others. They will report on these opinions to the class. Using them as a starting point, the students will compare and contrast Twain’s opinions with those of more recent scholars, and try to formulate their own opinions of the effects of technology and religion on our present society.
