授業の目的、または到達目標 What is intellectual property? It is property people create using their intellect or talent. It includes art, music, dance, medicine, technology, and many other things.
Learning goals:
Understand the different categories of IP
Understand basic differences in IP rights in Japan and the US
Consider international treaties that govern IP rights
Consider how international law tries to help poor countries afford medicine and other IP controlled by wealthy countries
授業の概要 We will begin with an introduction to the different categories of IP available in Japan. We will consider briefly how these rights are applied under US law and international law. Since intellectual property covers so many things (performance arts, painting, literature, medicine, technology, symbols and names, etc.) the amount of time we spend on the different categories of IP may vary depending on the interests of the students. All legal materials are available in both English and Japanese.
