授業の目的、または到達目標 The aim of this class is to examine what peace is in the midst of violence in the present world and seek nonviolent ways to realize peaceful society as an achievable goal.

* can understand the importance of peace studies in creating peace
授業の概要 Following a brief survey of English legal history, the legal profession and the differences between the two major divisions of the law (civil and criminal), the main part of the course will be concerned with exploring the constituents of a crime and how general legal principles can be employed to determine guilt or innocence in specific cases. Students will be encouraged to compare and contrast Anglo-Saxon/Norman-French precepts with appropriate elements of Japanese law.

準備学習 Preparation. After each mini-lecture, the material (in the form of study notes) should be studied at leisure. Presentations must be researched in the library and via the internet. This will entail group work.

成績評価方法・基準 Classwork 60% + Research Paper 40% (preliminary work 20% + final draft 20%) Late papers will be penalised.
