授業の目的、または到達目標 To gain better understanding of major environmental issues and to raise awareness about ideas and solutions for building a sustainable future.
授業の概要 This course will consider topics related to the environment such as global warming, sustainability, and green economics, among others, and consider how these topics relate to us individually. Some of the questions the course will address include: What environmental issues face us today? What is being done about them? What would it be like to live in a sustainable society? Readings from a number of genres will provide a framework for the exploration of these topics.

準備学習 Review the materials covered in class. Read assigned texts, and work on other assignments to be announced in class (TBA). Prepare yourself for quizzes to be given regularly (See weekly schedule). Prepare a research paper and a presentation on the main ideas of your paper. A 5-page research paper with a References page will be prepared in three stages: 1. The outline and references (due in class on the 6th week); 2. The first draft (11th week), and 3. The final draft (14th week). In addition to a research paper, a presentation, quizzes, and assignments, regular attendance and active participation in class are also required to pass this course. Students who miss class are responsible to find out what was done in class, what the assignment for the next class is and when the assignments are due.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work 50% (attendance, class participation, quizzes, assignments); Research Paper 40% (Outline 5%, Rough Draft 10%, Final Draft 25%); Final Presentation 10%; Late assignments and papers will be penalized.
