To become familiar with a wide variety of knowledge necessary for understanding current international business issues.

授業の概要 |
This course will consider international trade and foreign investment; the roles of commercial, investment, and central banks; finance and foreign exchange; crisis management; business/governmental relations; the importance of accurate financial accounting; marketing; and the cultural factors which influence the behavior of organizations. Students will be exposed to many of the fields which form the curriculum of the academic study known as "business administration." The course should help students decide what, if any, aspect of business they would enjoy as a future career. However, in addition and most importantly, this course will help students understand the world around them.

準備学習 |
Initially, some basic concepts and vocabulary must be mastered. These will enable you to read progressively more challenging material and to discuss it in small groups. By the end of the first eight weeks you must choose a topic for your research paper. The following week your outline will be due, two weeks later (week 11) your first draft, and on the 13th class session your final research paper will be due. Your instructor will assist you throughout with the selection, organization, and preparation of your paper.

教科書 |
Students will read, report on, and discuss recent articles culled from publications such as The Economist, Business Week, The Nikkei Weekly, and various newspapers. Most of the reading material will be available online. There may be a textbook.

Class work & quizzes: 50%
Final presentation: 10% (group project)
Research Paper: 40% Length = 5+ pages (outline, introduction, & preparation 5%; first draft 10%; ) final draft 25%
