科目名 Topic Studies I  Human Rights: UN, NGOs, Actions

授業の目的、または到達目標 To consider the issues related to human rights in the present age.
授業の概要 When you hear the term ‘human rights’, which topics flashed across your mind? In this course we read a story of a young boy’s journey from a refugee camp in Sudan to Chicago. How did he overcome racial prejudice, language barriers and financial disadvantage? How did he realize his dream of a full-tuition scholarship to Harvard University? We also examine the relevant UN conventions briefly, look at the relevant UN agencies and NGOs and actions which they have been taking in order to solve many problems of human rights.
