授業の目的、または到達目標 To explore concepts of Japanese language, people, and culture in order to identify ways in which these concepts impact intercultural communication.
授業の概要 Inefficient communication can be both mentally and physically stressful to participants. This natural tension is increased in bilingual situations, such as when Japanese communicate with English speakers. This course will examine aspects of the Japanese language, people, and culture including high-context language use, collectivism, and harmony by analyzing natural conversation data. This aalysis will enable students to identify how to avoid stress when communicating in English and improve efficiency in intercultural communication.
