科目名 Computer-Assisted Composition

授業の目的、または到達目標 Students will be expected to practice composition, editing, and evaluation of their own and other student’s writing. Students will explore writing styles, from set rhetorical patterns to free writing and research writing. One aspect of this will be the need to conduct research and analyze information found from a critical perspective. Students will also be expected to expand on skills covered in Research Methods.
The computer will be one of the tools used in the composition process, but this is not a class in how to use a computer. Students must have basic skills before enrolling.

  • Do Internet research exercises and activities. Finding good sources. Hand in final draft of the first essay.

  • Do in-class timed writing in Criterion. Continue Internet exercises and activities.

  • Prepare outline for Internet Essay
  • Continue work on Internet Essay. Review thesis statement and References page construction.

  • Put rough draft of Internet Essay on Criterion
  • Review analysis reports of rough draft. Work on improving rough draft

  • Submit rough draft on Criterion again
  • Continue work on and revision of the Internet Essay. Course review

  • Prepare to turn in portfolio of all assignments
  • Turn in portfolio of all work including the final draft of the Internet Essay. In-class final examination.

準備学習 Students will need to spend approximately 2 hours per week finding research material online or in the library.
教科書 Some handouts will be provided by the instructor. Others may be picked up at the Writing Center in the SASSC room
参考文献 Students are encouraged to read the CALL orientation material concerning the use of the computers and software programs, especially for word processing programs and Criterion. They should also review APA style sheets and manuals.

Introduction to course requirements, basic computer use, and e-mail. Techniques for using word processing software efficiently.
Review word processing manuals
Explanation of expository writing, sending e-mail attachments and begin working on first essay.
Send e-mail attachment. Choose topic for first essay.
Review essay form. Continue work on first essay. Explanation of Criterion.
Prepare a paragraph to use in Criterion. Prepare outline for first essay.
Examine paragraph in Criterion. Explain how to use Criterion reports.
Review Criterion reports
Explain APA formatting and requirements.
Review selected parts of APA manual.
