授業の目的、または到達目標 To deepen students' understanding of modern issues in health
授業の概要 This course will encourage students to think more deeply about modern issues in health through readings, writing activities, discussions, and presentations. Topics covered will include ethical issues including plastic surgery, abortion, and euthansia; health issues issues , such as smoking and obesity; and topics such as diet and fitness.

準備学習 Preparation for class is required. To understand the topics being discussed in class, students must do the assigned readings before class and prepare for discussions each week. Readings and homework must be completed before class. Through discussions, readings, worksheets, research papers, and presentations, students will come to understand important health-related issues in the modern world.

参考文献 Students are encouraged to use the Internet and materials available in the library
成績評価方法・基準 Class work & quizzes: 50% (quizzes will be on readings, discussions, presentations) Final presentation: 10% Required group project (sources must be referenced) Research Paper: 40% Length = 5+ pages outline, introduction, & preparation 5% first draft (& references) 10% final draft 25%
備考 A detailed syllabus will be provided at the first class meeting.
