授業の目的、または到達目標 To increase awareness of issues global concern we face today in terms to technology, the environment, and society.


授業の概要 Rapid advances in technology have made great contributions to our life. However they have forced us to make a number of new and difficult moral decisions. In this course, we look at challenging issues in terms of technology, the environment and society. Our topics range from global warming to current issues such as cloning, dioxins and rights.

準備学習 Class Work: Students will be asked to read about 20 pages per week and complete worksheets to take part in discussion. They will take 5 quizzes to assess their understanding of the assigned readings before the final quiz. The representative of the groups is required to present their conclusion of what they discussed in every class. The students also work on a final presentation on one of the topics they write.
Research Paper: In order to pass the course, students must submit a 5-page research paper. It is completed in three stages: Outline, Introduction & references; the first draft; and the final paper. If students do not turn in the paper, they can not pass the course.
