To acquire basic skills of English-Japanese and Japanese-English consecutive (and simultaneous) interpretation. |
授業の概要 |
This course is designed for the students who are interested in English interpreting. Although there is a slight difference between Adv. level and Int. level, the main focus for both levels will be on acquisition of consecutive interpreting. General theories of interpreting will be lectured, but still the main focus will be the practical training. To be able to interpret different subjects with confidence, one needs to have not only proficiency in Japanese and English, but also background knowledge about the topics. The knowledge about the global issues is especially important. To train the skills in this area, there will be exercises in getting information as quickly and deeply as possible from the news articles and stories. Various training methods like lagging, shadowing, sight translation and consecutive (& simultaneous) interpreting will be used. |

The class will meet in an LL room. Each session will contain more of practical training than discussion on principles. |
