科目名 Topic Studies I - 2  Leaving Home Behind: The Mass Movement of Populations
担当教員 Verity,Deryn
授業の目的、または到達目標 To increase awareness of the issues that arise from massive movement of peoples from their homes: war, economic necessity, ecologic pressures and famine force hundreds of thousands of people to become refugees and migrants every year. To increase knowledge of geo-politics and social change, the class will ask students to look at the human costs and opportunities of this phenomenon.
授業の概要 A case study approach will ask students to relate brief readings of migrants’ experiences to their own understanding of the social, linguistic and cultural ties that give us our sense of identity. Examples of refugees from war zones, economic migrants seeking work illegally in affluent societies, and populations who have had to flee ecological catastrophes at home will be discussed and analyzed.
