授業の目的、または到達目標 To learn about roots of social problems from historical， legal and ethical points of vies， and to explore solutions to them in relation to 21st century realities.
授業の概要 The purpose of this class in to better understand the concept of social problems and thereby become better able to develop solutions for them. Students will also discuss how potential connections between local and global problems. Learning more about this topic can potentially empower students to more effectively cope with and solve social problems as they relate to their lives， and to have a positive influence on the planet. Class topics related to social problems include crime， gender， social deviance， and forms of social injustice.

授業の形態 During most classes， students will discuss topics based on materials provided in classes or on homework assignments. Students will work often in small groups. Students will be required to give a formal group presentation， an individual presentation and a poster presentation. There will also be two quizzes on class vocabulary.

準備学習 Each student will participate in a group presentation and a poster presentation. Each student will need to prepare and give an individual presentation. Students will need to meet with group members outside of class to prepare their group and poster presentations. Students will also be required to read articles (provided by the teacher) for homework and prepare for discussions in class. Students will take two quizzes (mostly on vocabulary). Students will need to participate in weekly class discussions and complete class materials.

教科書 I will provide materials for class and presentation work. Students will need to acquire poster paper for poster presentations， and make a small number of copies for other presentations.

参考文献 Reference materials will be available at the library or at my Topic Studies I website.
成績評価方法・基準 Classwork (practice presentations， class discussions， quizzes， homework， participation， etc.): 50%
Group Presentation: 20%
Individual Presentation: 20%
Poster Presentation: 10%
