科目名 Theory of International Human Rights (国際人権論)  Human Rights in Occupied Palestine
担当教員 Takahashi, Saul 高橋 宗瑠
授業の目的、または到達目標 Upon completing this course, students should be able to:
Explain the main current human rights issues in Palestine; and
Explain the historical context to the Palestinian situation.
授業の概要 In this course, we will use the human rights prism in analysing the most longstanding conflict on the UN agenda. On the basis of the assumption that most students are do not have an indepth knowledge of the country, we will have to spend some time on the historical background - however, after that, the course will focus on specific aspects of the occupation in reference to internatoinal human rights standards. The course will also examine the role of the United Nations, and why it has not been effective in solving the problem of Palestine. Current issues abroad will also be examined, including the Israel Lobby in hte United States and increasing economic and military co-operation between Japan and Israel. It will be assumed that students already have a basic understanding of international human rights and humanitarian law - having completed previous courses in those subjects is not a must, but it is strongly advised.

科目群/ベンチマーク Research Fundamental subjects 研究基礎科目群
授業の形態 Students will be expected to conduct frequent presentations and to produce a final term paper.
