科目名 Vocabulary through Reading-Global Issues

授業の目的、または到達目標 Students will study vocabulary through reading in the context area. Students will be reading about global issues and concetrating on learning the core vocabulary needed for in-depth studty of this area. Through learning vocabulary in context, students will become familiar with current topics of concern and be prepared for specialized courses in this field.
授業の概要 Teachers will have a choice of textbooks to teach from. A pre a choice of textbooks to teach from. A pre-test will be give at the beginning of the course to determine students' current level. Since this course on learning voacabulary through reading and content, students need to read and then spend time on using the new vocabulary. Thus, a class may consist of reviewing a reading, reviewing the vocabulary, and discussing the content using the new vocabualary that they have learned. In addition, students should keep vocabulary cards or vocabulary notebooks and review the new words often.

成績評価方法・基準 Course work...............80%
a. Word cards and vocabulary notebooks(may include student presentations)...40%
b. Homework from thext(includes reading comprehension) ...20%
c. In class work(includes weekly reading/vocabulary quizzes, comprehension checks, and use of selected vocabulary in a discussion or written work) ...20%
In-class final exam ........................................20%
The final in-class exam should include vocabulary that students have learned and in context; it should not be a list of words(without context) context; it should not be a list of words(without context). It might include a reading comprehension section and wrods from the pre-test. The in-class final exam should be given some time during the last two weeks. If a student is unable to the last two weeks. If a student is unable to take the in-class final exam, a make-up exam , a male-up exam exam, a make-up exam , a male-up exam will be given during the exam period.
