授業の目的、または到達目標 To learn about philosophy and theory of cooperative learning, to gain understanding of how these are reflected in tasks or activities, and to understand how cooperative learning can maximize participants’ learning.

Learning Goals:
*can describe key concepts and principles of cooperative learning
*can understand necessary social and communication skills for successful cooperative learning
*can identify how cooperative learning are applied for learning various subjects in education
授業の概要 In this course, students will learn the key concepts and principles of cooperative leaning based on readings, followed by experiencing various cooperative learning activities. As reflection of the learning experience, students will discuss how certain concepts and principles of cooperative learning are applied to each of the learning activities. In addition, students will gain understanding of the importance of developing social and communication skills to successful collaborative group activities.

授業の形態 Students will have discussions based on textbook and other assigned materials, experience various cooperative learning activities, reflect upon the experienced activities and share in small group discussions. Students will also conduct research into cooperative learning implemented in education and report through group presentations.

準備学習 Students are expected to read assigned readings several hours a week and to complete worksheets for subsequent class discussions. Students will also be responsible for active participation in various cooperative learning activities, thorough reflection of experienced learning activities for following discussion, and reviewing course content for occasional quizzes. Students will also research the use of cooperative learning in education, either individually or as a group, and prepare a report and presentation.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work, quizzes = 40% (in-class discussions, homework, mini-presentations)
