授業の目的、または到達目標 Students can read and write English for both personal expression and basic research.
Students can read and understand English texts using appropriate strategies.
Students can read widely from extensive reading texts.
Students can prepare and give oral presentations on various topics related to personal goals, educational background, and life interests.
Students can cooperate with others to prepare and present group projects.
Students can combine all four language skills with greater ease and fluency.
授業の概要 Students will use the skills of speaking, reading, listening, & writing, in English to express their ideas on the topics of identity, global citizenship, peace, and personal goals.
They will practice basic research procedures in collecting, organizing and presenting information about these topics in a variety of formal and informal ways.
The rhetorical focus will be on gathering examples and details to illustrate main ideas.

授業の形態 Individual/Pair/Group work, several assigned projects, group and individual homework and classwork
Students will have regular homework for this class and are required to research and organize several topical reports and presentations. Most of the project work will be done in small groups, and evaluation will be on both individual and group efforts.
Students are required to sign up for, and participate in, an Extensive Reading program that is mostly independent; to complete a reflective Portfolio that combines work from both IS1 and IS2; to regularly make entries into a Vocabulary Journal or on Vocabulary Cards, and to participate in all in-class activities.

成績評価方法・基準 Projects (4 or more) = 40%
The projects include a mix of oral presentation, poster presentation, group discussion, written assignment, and others.
Classwork = 60%
Classwork includes regular homework, in-class participation in speaking, listening, writing, and reading activities; extensive reading response activities, quizzes, and preparation for project assignments. Extensive reading and the OJC Vocabulary Program will each be 10% of the Classwork grade.
*Feedback on student work will be given orally or in writing, and in some cases may be digital.
