授業の目的、または到達目標 To understand how our own experiences and beliefs shape the way we interact with people, to develop expertise in communicating across cultures, and to gain knowledge of intercultural communication skills. We will examine identity, language, nonverbal codes and other factors that affect communication.
Learning Objectives
Can identify some gestures and their different meanings in different countries
Can identify your our stereotypes
Can understand how individuals are different in their views of the world and values
Can explain the concept of the cultural iceberg
Can explain high/low context
Can give examples of Describe, Interpret and Evaluate
Can give a presentation on an aspect of culture
Can explain hidden culture
授業の概要 What is culture? How does it influence how we interact with people? Why do people from different backgrounds often misunderstand each other? How can we develop better communication skills? These are a few of the questions that we will discuss.

準備学習 Students are expected to come to class prepared to actively participate in discussions. The instructor will be facilitating discussions and will draw on students' ideas to expand the course material.
