授業の目的、または到達目標 To write clear, logically organized, and well developed English paragraphs and essays.
授業の概要 This course is one component of the first-year Integrated Units curriculum. In it, students will learn how to organize, develop and explain ideas in a style appropriate to English academic writing. They will learn and practice basic steps of the composition process and apply those steps to the writing of paragraphs and essays. Essay topics include human rights and crises of life. The writing skills studied are essential for the writing of papers in the second year Topic Studies classes. Additionally, the skills practiced in composition will be useful for any future academic study, or other English Writing.

準備学習 Active participation is essential for improving writing. Students are expected to take an active role in improving their own writing ability. This includes attending class and completing assignments.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work 40%
(Includes homework, quizzes, journals, letters, reports, summaries, etc.)
Unit 3 essays 30% (15% for each)
Unit 4 essay 30%
(Unit 3 essay work includes pre-writing, outlines, drafts, and final paper)
(Unit 4 essay work includes pr-writing, outlines, drafts, and final draft which uses APA)
