授業の目的、または到達目標 To understand the history of American Literature and explore how the works and the American society are related.
Learning Goals:
*can understand the history of American Literature
*can chronologically explain the main works
*can research an area of interest in American Literature
授業の概要 This course aims that students will understand the history of American Literature. The course will cover from the era of "The New World" to American Nonfiction in 20th century. The course will examine how American Literature was formed and developed. Students will learn how American society and the literature are connected through reading. Students will also discuss how they appreciate the works and why literature is important in present lives.

準備学習 Students are required to do the reading assignment of at least 4-5 pages of the text book (or any other additional reading materials distributed) every week, and make preparations for the assigned presentations as deemed necessary.

成績評価方法・基準 Evaluation is based on course work, participation, and papers: Class work & quizzes – 40% (includes in-class work, homework, presentations, quizzes, discussions); Group research presentation – 20% & written summary & reflection of research – 10%; Reflection & response papers – 30% (4 or more, see information about each of the courses).
備考 1. Two-page Summary of Research Presentation & References should be submitted individually by each student on the presentation day.
2. Submission of the reflection papers (of at least 4 pages in total) and 2-page summary of presentation along with a references page is required for the students to pass the course.
