授業の目的、または到達目標 "To grasp the basics of human rights, how laws work to guarantee them, and to recognise and assert them for yourself and others
Learning Goals:
* can identify and analyse human rights issues in news reports as well as from other world media sources, including films and literature
* can explain the structure of legal instruments guaranteeing your/my human rights and how they work
* can explain each of human rights as your/my rights
* can understand that human rights are universal rather than cultural

授業の概要 After a brief review of the historical development of human rights and fundamental freedoms, this course explains the three levels of legal framework (international, regional and domestic) and ways in which human rights are guaranteed today. This course then analyses types of human rights duties (negative and positive duties) and manners of application (vertical and horizontal applications) before turning attention to a range of thematic topics of human rights from classical ones (slavery, torture, right to due process of law, equality before the law) to newer ones (right to know, right to privacy, right to die, right to live in peace).
