授業の目的、または到達目標 To introduce students to theater and performance practices.

preliminary steps through rehearsals and performance
* can examine theatrical texts and their performance requirements
* can develop individual creative visions
授業の概要 This course focuses on the creation and production of theatrical texts.
Students will use their imaginations and creative abilities to write, rehearse and perform original plays and to perform scenes from well-known plays in
English. In addition to creating their own aesthetic texts, students will analyze theatrical texts for the purpose of performance and prepare these through the rehearsals. Students will approach performance as a method of inquiry and discovery. Students will explore the basic aspects of theatrical performance such as creating characters, staging scenes, and understanding
and illuminating dramatic action. This class will provide an opportunity for students to realize their own individual creative visions as well as to work together as a group to produce a unique dramatic performance.

準備学習 Preparation for class is required. To understand the content of this course, students must do the assigned readings before class and prepare for discussions each week. Readings and homework must be completed before class.
教科書 Class material will be provided by the instructor.
成績評価方法・基準 Class work – 60% (includes in-class work, homework, presentations, quizzes, discussions); Reflection papers (2 or more) & Research Paper (3+ pages & references) – 40% [includes early stages (outline, introduction, preparation, first draft) & final paper; 2 or more reflection papers to develop understanding of the topic).
