授業の目的、または到達目標 To learn about elements of intercultural communication and to understand several perspectives
on its use in a globalized world.
Learning Goals:
* can understand and discuss the framework of communication and social interaction
between people from different cultures
* can understand how intercultural communication is used in a global context
* can explore the way to integrate communication and culture
授業の概要 In this course, students will read a couple of accounts on intercultural communication to learn about the framework of culture and how it relates to communication between people from different cultural backgrounds or in a globalized world. They will also discuss the way to integrate communication and culture based upon the readings and will be asked to make presentation and write papers on the subject. The course will give useful knowledge and insight for the students who wish to advance their study in translation, interpreting, or international communication.

成績評価方法・基準 Evaluation is based on course work, participation, and papers (the details will be provided in class):

- Class work & quizzes = 40% (includes in-class work, homework, presentations,
quizzes, discussions)
- Research presentation = 20%
- Written summary & reflection of research = 10%
- Reflection & response or short research papers = 30% (4 or more papers/ at least one page each)
Submission of the reflection papers (of at least 4 pages in total) and Summery of Presentation (2+ pages & references including early stages of works) is required for the students to pass the course.

Feedback:
Comments on papers will be by written comments on papers.
Comments on presentations will be by oral comments.
