授業の目的、または到達目標 To understand the role of myths and their importance in the development of society.
Learning Goals:
* can explain the role of myths in society and describe basic mythic patterns
* can describe the development of myths and fairy tales
* can describe the importance of myths to individuals
* can explain the way in which modern media (movies, TV, books) continue to follow the mythic pattern
授業の概要 This course will examine the role of myths and the importance they play in the development of society, In this course, students will examine the myths and fairy tales of various cultures, from early history to the present. The function of mythology and its manifestations in myths, legends, parables, and fairy tales will be examined, discussed, and compared. Emphasis will be given to a comparison of the similarities found in myths.

準備学習 Preparation for class is required. To understand myths and the role of myths in society, students must do the assigned readings before class and prepare for the discussions each week. Readings and homework must be completed before class.
