授業の目的、または到達目標 In this course, students are introduced comprehensive basis of concepts and techniques for social research in the text of development and international cooperation studies. This course is divided into the following three sections: 1) Key concepts and general background of social research, 2) basic knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, and 3) students’ presentations of each own research plan, respectively. In discussing each topic, we will also consider the ethical implications of social research in development.By the end of the course, students should be able to: 1.gain knowledge of the process of conducting research, 2.formulate good research questions and develop technical research skill,3.consider different research approach with the relation to the student’s own research topic and design one’s own plan.4.gain knowledge of structure to write their social science papers.
授業の概要 The class format consists of lectures, group discussion, and student presentation. It is essential that each student will become able to set one's own research questions and design a research method based on the set questions. Each student is required to submit one's own research proposal and have an oral presentation at the end of the course.

準備学習 Students will be required to read assigned materials and prepare for class presentations and discussions. 
Students are required to design and conduct a small scale research project.
教科書 The following textbooks will be used during the class. However, you do not have to purchase or photocopy them because we are not using all the contents. The photocopy which will be needed in the class should be distributed before the class.
