To understand the roles of literacy, texts, and reading in culture. Learning goals: At the end of this class, students can * explain the basic historical timeline of writing * read and respond to several genres of English literature * write reflective papers in response to personal reading * discuss in English the contents of personal reading texts * discuss in some detail the importance of literacy in modern culture |
授業の概要 |
Students will read widely and gain experience in discussing thematic content, character analysis, cultural context and questions of the social roles of the text. They will write four reflection & response papers, and prepare a group research presentation for the end of the semester, including a final paper with APA references. The focus of the discussions will be on how reading and literacy changes our lives and the lives of people in our society. |

準備学習 |
Students should spend approximately 7-8 hours a week outside of class completing HW, doing outside reading, and writing in their Reading Journals. Students must keep a weekly reading journal as part of their regular class work. A 3-page research paper and oral presentation explaining the research is required. |
