授業の概要 |
Using recent examples of news events and emerging trends, this course will examine the effect these issues will have on society in the near and distant future. The 2003 Iraq War (and Japan's role as a U.S. ally), global health issues; Japan's aging population and the burden it will place on pension, health care and employment issues, are just some of the topics we will be discussing. Continual policies such as those effecting Japanese education--at all levels--and trends influencing youth and young adults will also be explored. |

準備学習 |
Preparation for class is required. To understand these issues, students will be required to read the assigned units of the text and complete the related content activities. Students should come to class with a basic understanding of the issues to be discussed each week. Each student will be required to give an in-class, small group presentation on a topic from the text or a related issue (topic must be approved by instructor). Quizzes will be based on class lectures and group work. Group project presentations require work outside of class with partners. Some class time will be devoted to the Research Paper, but the research and writing will be completed outside of class. |
