授業の目的、または到達目標 To obtain an understanding of the European Union (EU) and examine its language policy and other current issues.
Learning goals:
* can discuss key points regarding the structure of the EU
* can explain how it operates to unite the EU countries
* can understand the current issues in the EU countries
* can understand and discuss the language policy of the EU
授業の概要 This course focuses on the European Union (EU); its brief history, organization, currency, religeon, immigration and language policy.
This course requires the participants to discuss the language policy and current issues of the EU,
based on the information which will be obtained from newspaper articles and other sources.

準備学習 Students are required to read assigned texts on the EU and do their homework before class in order to carry out good discussions in class.
教科書 The reading texts will be given in class.
成績評価方法・基準 Evaluation is based on course work, participation, and papers: Class work & quizzes = 40% (includes in-class work, homework, presentations, quizzes, discussions); Group research presentation = 20% & written summary & reflection of research = 10%; Reflection & response papers = 30% (4 or more, see information about each of the courses).
