授業の目的、または到達目標 The goal of this course is to understand how culture shapes the way people act and think. The most effective way to understand this is through examining differences. Points of comparison can be made in areas such as language use, conversational style, verbal and nonverbal behavior, the concepts of time and space, ethics, food and many others.

Learning goals:
Can understand how cultural beliefs and values shape our behavior
Can explain basic concepts of culture
Can give a presentation on an aspect of culture
Can write reflection papers on topics covered in class
Can recognize some underlying factors in cultural differences
授業の概要 This course will be based on readings, short talks,videos, and class activities. It is based on the belief that understanding comes not only through academic study, but also by firsthand experience. Thus, there will be a strong focus on experiential learning, but students will be expected to document their experiences through written reflections.

授業の形態 Students will be expected to do the readings and homework before each class. They will participate in discussions and many intercultural activities. There will also be some quizzes throughout the course. Short presentations and one main individual presentation will be required.
