科目名 Theme Studies  Introduction to Sociology: Social issues in Hawai’i
担当教員 夫 明美
授業の目的、または到達目標 To understand current social issues in Hawai'i.
Leaning goals:
can explain and discuss current social issues in Hawai'i
can apply what they have learnt in this class in order to other current issues in society
can collect and analyze basic data from newspapers, government reports, and journal articles
授業の概要 The main goals of this course is to provide basic introduction to the field of sociology, and gain basic understanding of the research target of the field through examining current social issues in Hawai’i. Though Hawai’i is often portrayed as a paradise in the Pacific Ocean, this chain of islands consists of multi-ethnic societies and faces many current social/environmental issues, such as economy, tourism, agriculture, military, transportation, social services, and homelessness. As Japan enters more global, or multi-ethnic society in a rapid manner, careful case studies about Hawai’i will provide the students with better awareness and readiness to live in such a rapidly changing society
