授業の概要 This course is a special writing component for two year college students. In it, students will learn how to organize, develop and explain ideas in a style appropriate to English academic writing. They will learn and practice basic steps of the composition process and apply those steps to the writing of paragraphs and essays. The writing skills studied are essential for the writing required in the second year Topic Studies classes. Additionally, the skills practiced in composition will be useful for any future academic study, or other English Writing.

準備学習 Active participation is essential for improving writing. Students are expected to take an active role in improving their own writing ability. This includes attending class and completing assignments. Students will work on improving writing fluency and will write a lot during this term. Students will consider the unit issues (Human Rights, Crises of Life) and can use these topics for writing logically organized paragraphs and essays.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work 50%
(Includes homework, quizzes, journals, letters, reports, summaries, and worksheets,)
First half of the semester writings 30% (at least two writings)
Second half of the semester writing(s) 20% (at least one writing)
(Paragraphs and essay work includes pre-writing, outlines, drafts, and final versions.)

Feedback on writing will be written and sometimes given to students on their compositions and at other times sent to the students electronically.
Feedback in class will be oral and given face-to-face.
