授業の概要 The purpose of this course is to teach students to research and develop the objectives, content, implementation and evaluation of a language teaching curriculum/syllabus. The course focuses on articulating one's teaching beliefs, analyzing learner needs, setting learning objectives, outlining material to be developed (and developing one unit) and creating an assessment plan to examine teaching effectiveness (along with assessment activities).

授業の形態 The basic structure of the course is that students will read about the Unit's topic before participating in large group and small group work in class. Students are expected to complete all work in a timely way and to provide feedback on how effective the course is for them and their learning. Note: this 4 credit course will spend some additional time working on Curriculum Design possibly looking at the work of well-known curriculum designers/educators such as Dewey, Tyler, and Taba.

成績評価方法・基準 CLASSWORK 40% (Quizzes and class participation (20%), homework (CDC 20%)
DISCUSSION COMPONENT 30% (Presentation (10%), Discussions (CDC 20%);
WRITING COMPONENT 30% (Journals and response papers 5 (20%), Final curriculum plan (10%))
The Curriculum Design Components (CDCs) are written products BUT their points are divided between Classwork and Discussion.
備考 By the end of this course, students can understand all that goes in to preparing a curriculum and be can show examples of their understanding. Come prepared to work hard but to have fun too!
