授業の目的、または到達目標 To prepare students to write the introduction and literature review of their graduation project thesis.
*Explain the difference between research papers and graduation theses. Understand the different types of GP possible.
*Find information on the internet and determine its veracity, and take notes (from books, journals, newspapers, internet, etc.)
*Perfect their ability to write summaries of research and be able to use quotes, summaries, and paraphrases appropriately.
*Be able to write detailed summaries from one article and to also write summaries on a topic from several articles.
*Summarize and create graphs, figures and tables
*Write APA citations correctly both in the text of the paper and in the reference page
授業の概要 This course builds upon writing skills developed in 1st and 2nd year courses. This course particularly aims to improve student’s skills at gathering, determining veracity, and summarizing information In addition, the process of writing will be reviewed as will the ability to show information in graphs and tables. Students will work on their own writing, including organization, details, grammar, structure of overall writing, style, and APA.

準備学習 Students should spend approximately 3-4 hours a week outside of class completing the required readings for homework, preparing their typed summaries, doing internet research,and working on their literature reviews.

成績評価方法・基準 RESEARCH SKILLS WORK---70%
Includes homework, quizzes, and in class work consisting of: note taking, outlining, finding and evaluating sources, practicing quoting, summarizing, and paraphrasing, writing citations and references, working with tables and figures, etc. Part of this work will involve working on summaries (article and thematic).

LITERATURE REVIEWS / DATA ANALYSIS---30%
A minimum of one 4-5-page summary and a 2-page table and figure results page. The grade will be based on the entire research process as studied in the Research Skills Work listed above including finding and evaluating sources, note taking, outlining, and properly using in-text citations and references in the reference page.
