授業の目的、または到達目標 To explore a range of social and cultural issues related to the role of the family in the 21st Century, through extended reading and class discussion.
Learning goals:
* can articulate the role of the family
* can describe the challenges faced to families and family structures by shifting values
* can read extensively reading and show understanding through discussion and writing
* can conduct research on a topic related to the main theme
* can present research findings as an academic paper and class presentation
授業の概要 In this course, students will study the role of the family in the 21st Century, its changes and the challenges it faces along with shifts in values, lifestyles and other socioeconomic factors. The course aims to develop students’ proficiency in reading and writing while developing an firm understanding of the social issues surrounding the family. Additionally, students will conduct research and present the results in writing and as a class presentation.

準備学習 A reading assignment will be given for homework to enable students to participate actively in group discussions. Students will also conduct research, write a five-page academic paper and make a presentation on their findings.

成績評価方法・基準 Class work 50% (class participation, and homework).
Research Paper 40% (Outline 5%, Rough Draft 10%, Final Draft 25%),
