授業の目的、または到達目標 To learn how to orally present, support, elicit and respond to personal opinions and to participate in group discussions and a variety of presentations.
*Learning Goals:
- can give a convincing opinion using reasons, examples, etc.
- can respond to other people's opinions appropriately.
- can get opinions from others.
- can make short presentations about the news and other topics.
- can understand and respond appropriately to presentations made by others.
授業の概要 The course is designed to help students organize and present information orally in discussion practice linked to the IU topics. Students watch lectures, learn topic-specific vocabulary and conversation strategies, and participate in communicative activities to improve their spoken English skills. Goals include improving ability to respond to, and develop, ideas and expressions in English discussion. Students are encouraged to make regular reports about news items, summarize news reports and stories, and express their opinions about current events. Students research and cooperate with each other to make various kinds of presentations.

準備学習 Students should study 2-3 hours a week outside of class. Outside study skills and activities include: practicing conversational management skills; preparing for in-class discussion, reading news stories or watching TV news; researching unit topics in the library or on the internet; making notes, reviewing vocabulary, and preparing group presentations.
